Season of Concern, the Chicagoland theatre community’s fundraising effort providing direct relief to those living with debilitating illness and injury, is hosting a benefit performance, “Season of Celebration: An Evening of Song,” on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Steppenwolf Theatre Company to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Biscotto-Miller Fund, the organization’s granting fund.
The evening commemorates Arts Against AIDS, a benefit performance by and for the Chicago theatre community in 1985 that raised money for the then newly-formed Biscotto-Miller fund, named after beloved theatre artists Tommy Biscotto and J. Pat Miller. Arts Against AIDS was described in the Chicago Tribune as “the biggest effort so far by Chicago’s entertainment community to raise funds for victims of the deadly ailment, and one of the biggest to date by performers anywhere in the country.”
The evening’s festivities include the Larry Sloan Awards, presented to individuals and organizations who have made exceptional contributions to supporting individuals living HIV/AIDS and other illnesses or injury.
This year’s recipients include Season of Concern Board Member Emeritus Alexandra Billings (Transparent), actor/comedian Mitchell Fain (The Second City, The Santaland Diaries), the companies of Goodman Theatre’s A Christmas Carol, and the organizers of Arts Against AIDS.
The evening will be hosted by Chicago legend E. Faye Butler and will feature performances by Bethany Thomas and Jess Godwin, Meghan Murphy, Mark David Kaplan, Christine Mild, Foiled Again, and a preview of Court Theatre’s production of One Man, Two Guvnors. VIP reserved seating tickets are $75, and general admission tickets are only $35. All proceeds go directly to Season of Concern.
