The Dashboard, powered by data from DataArts’ Cultural Data Profile (CDP), illuminates organizations' performance trends across nine key areas, and provides a KIPI score, ranging from 0-100, so organizations have an idea of their overall financial and operating health relative to similar organizations nationally. Theater on the Lake in the Works: Call for Submissions

Entering its 65th season, Theater on the Lake programming is expanding to include a brand new initiative—a new play commission. For decades this festival has successfully showcased Chicago’s finest off-Loop theater. In order to better support and nurture Chicago’s thriving theater community, this festival will now also include the development of one new play each season.

In partnership with Chicago Dramatists and supported by Artistic Curator Isaac Gomez, the recipient of this new play commission will receive the following support:

A small stipend;
Four seasonal public readings held in Chicago Park District locations throughout the city, kicking off in August 2017. These readings will be fully cast and moderated by established literary managers and dramaturgs in Chicago;
Consultation with literary managers and local dramaturgs throughout the development process;
Fully supported main stage production as part of Theater on the Lake’s 2018 season.

At this time the Chicago Park District’s Theater on the Lake is accepting submissions. Please submit the following in PDF or Word formats:
A full-length, never-before-produced play as a draft (no musicals, please);
A statement (approximately 500 words) explaining why you are interested in collaborating with Theater on the Lake to continue developing this play as the commission;
A professional resume outlining your playwriting and other related experience.
(Please Note: Synopses and 10-page work samples will NOT be considered.)

Please create an account below to learn more about eligibility and how to submit.

The submission deadline is December 16, 2016. We will notify you of our decision the first week in February.

Thank you!
Theater on the Lake, Chicago Park District

Greenhouse Theater Center Announces New Resident Theatre Company Initiative

Currently Accepting Applicants for 2017
The Greenhouse Theater Center announced today it is seeking applicants for its new Resident Theater Company Program set to launch in 2017. The newly-created initiative aims to foster the growth of itinerant Chicago theatre companies by providing affordable performance spaces and resources to expand audiences.

Resident companies will enjoy sharply reduced rental costs for the venue’s two 190-seat mainstages, expanded marketing support including dedicated subscription management with access to the Greenhouse’s patron database and access to the building’s many amenities including a full-service box office and bar. Located at 2257 N. Lincoln Ave., the Greenhouse Theater Center is one of Chicago’s premier off-loop performance spaces, with an esteemed history dating back to the late 1960s.

The Resident Theater Company Program features a low weekly rental rate of $1500, in contrast to the Greenhouse’s standard rental fees ranging from $3000 - $4000/week. The program also includes a 90%/10% profit sharing agreement, giving The Greenhouse and residents shared incentives to succeed while keeping the rental rate low. Companies interested in applying for the Resident Theater Company Program should contact General Manager Maia Reed at gm@greenhousetheater.org or (773) 404-7336.

Additionally, The Greenhouse will continue to make investments into the building’s infrastructure to update the lobby and performance spaces, making them even more conducive to the work of all tenant companies. The Greenhouse recently enhanced the audience experience in their mainstage theaters by replacing the audience seating and flooring to provide patrons with a more comfortable theater-going environment. Additional lighting and audio equipment is currently enhancing both the patron and renter experience with further infrastructure improvements on the way. Most immediately, addressing soundproofing is underway to improve the performance spaces and greatly decrease the sound bleed between the individual stages and their respective lobbies, which is a perennial concern for multi-venue spaces. Long-term goals include further expanding the technical capabilities of the spaces and improved dressing rooms and lobby amenities.

About the Greenhouse Theater Center
The Greenhouse Theater Center is a nonprofit performance venue located at 2257 N. Lincoln Ave, in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Our complex offers two newly remodeled 190-seat main stage spaces, two 60-seat studio theaters, an in-house rehearsal room, and Chicago’s only dedicated used theatre bookstore.

Our mission at the Greenhouse is first and foremost to grow local theatre. We strive to cultivate a fertile environment for local artists, from individual renters to our bevy of resident companies, to develop and produce their work. In 2014 alone, The Greenhouse Theater Center provided space for almost 1,000 ticketed performances, serving more than 54,000 patrons. Among these events were at least 30 productions by our resident companies, including the celebrated Remy Bumpo Theatre Company. Through our Trellis Program, we offer the community affordable access to our work by housing Chicago’s only dedicated used theatre bookstore, located on the second floor of our complex, as well as offering a free reading series each Tuesday night where local artists workshop their latest scripts. Additionally, we also continue to play an active role in cultivating and nurturing our community through continued partnerships with the League of Chicago Theaters and local Chambers of Commerce.

As of 2016, the Greenhouse Theater Center embraced the true spirit of growth and launched its producing entity. With the announcement of our 8 month long Solo Celebration Series, helmed by Artistic Director Jacob Harvey, we will produce 12 solo plays from June 2016 to February 2017. Through this inaugural effort, we hope to expand the solo play cannon while also cultivating a larger conversation about the possibilities of the one-person play.

With new ideas always incubating, the Greenhouse Theater Center is flourishing.

Come grow with us!

Stage Managers and Social Media Forum

Stage Managers and Social Media forum.
Monday Oct 24, 2016 6:30-9:30, at The Theatre School at DePaul University 2350 N Racine Ave (corner of Fullerton & Racine) ROOM 301 (take elevator or stairs to 3rd floor)
All stage managers and student stage managers are welcome to attend. Denise Schneider the Press Director of the Goodman Theatre notes “Social media is a bit like the Wild West—but there’s gold in them thar hills!". I believe she has nailed the perfect description. What are the rules and regulations that stage managers should be following when they post or are asked to post items about the show they are working on? Is there a safe place within Social Media for SM's to ask questions and share solutions? These questions and more are what we plan to discuss during the Forum.
The forum is sponsored by the Stage Managers' Association and SMA member Jason Shivers and Joe Drummond as the Central Regional Rep are hosting the event.

TDF Now Accepting Applications for National Open Captioning Initiative

TDF offers a limited number of two-year partnerships with professional regional theatres to sponsor open captioned performances and increase attendance by people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The sponsorship is intended as a service in and of itself for people who are hard of hearing or deaf rather than a supplemental service to be offered in tandem with regularly scheduled sign language interpreted performances.

Theatre Development Fund Provides:
COST OF SERVICE
Payment of expenses for contracting open captioning services through a professional theatre captioning company, which includes captioning fees as well as any travel expenses incurred by the caption operators during the preparation process and performance. Our service provider is c2, Caption Coalition Inc., for any OC sponsorship as we have a long-standing partnership with the company in modeling best practices on a national level. c2 is specific to TDF partnerships.

ASSISTANCE WITH PROMOTION
Listing of TDF sponsored open captioned performances at the partnering venue on TDF's website, with links for ticket purchasing; and publicizing these accessible performances through mail and email newsletters to TDF theatregoers with hearing loss.

EXPERTISE
Readiness to share experience on audience development, equipment options and funding; and to serve as a liaison, when needed, between producing entity and venue in regard to queries that may arise.

HOW TO APPLY
Professional theatres interested in being considered for a partnership should send a letter of inquiry to tap@tdf.org by 6pm on April 21st, 2017 that briefly outlines the following:
*Commitment to providing better access for people with disabilities.*
*Indication of strong community support for open captioning; e.g., letter(s) from members of the community with hearing loss requesting open captioning and/or letter(s) from local HLAA chapter(s).*
*Proposed season schedule of open captioned performances with dates, times and productions listed, preferably in a series; e.g., one open captioned performance of each production in the Broadway series, offered on the first Saturday matinee of each show's run.*

Join the Season of Concern AIDS Run and Walk on 10/1

Saturday, October 1 at Soldier Field

We are simply family helping family.

Created 30 years ago by Chicago theater artists to provide care for those in the theater community afflicted with AIDS-related illnesses, Season of Concern has raised tens of thousands of dollars from generous artists and theater patrons to benefit hundreds of people in the entertainment industry-actors, directors, designers, technicians, playwrights-who are experiencing health-related emergencies and medical issues.

Since 1987, Season of Concern has distributed over 2.5 million dollars to 35 different Chicago-based AIDS service organizations, including AIDS Legal Council of Chicago, Chicago Women's AIDS Project, and The Children's Place. These direct-care grant awards are distributed annually and support a variety of essential programs and services for those in the Chicago community in need.

In addition, Season of Concern's Biscotto-Miller Fund provides financial assistance to individuals in the Chicago theatre community who are experiencing a catastrophic illness or a health-related emergency or event, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS. The fund was created in 1985 to honor the memory of stage manager Tommy Biscotto and actor J. Pat Miller.

Lastly, Season of Concern gives sustaining support to the Chicago office of The Actors Fund, the national human services organization that helps entertainment and performing arts professionals in theatre, film, music, opera, television and dance through a broad spectrum of social, health, employment and housing programs that address their essential and critical needs. Funding provided by Season of Concern goes directly to the Chicago office of The Actors Fund Chicago, which oversees the entertainment community in Chicago and throughout the Midwest.
