Rescripted Announces Second Session of The Key
Rescripted is thrilled to announce the second session of The Key: Young Critics Mentorship Program, beginning September 18 and hosted this year at Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted. Regina Victor, founder of the online arts journalism platform Rescripted and entertainment critic Oliver Sava, created the 10-week training program for Chicago youth in arts criticism. In league with The Chicago Inclusion Project, The Key successfully launched last year at Greenhouse Theater Center with its first group of young writers learning the skills and industry knowledge needed to pursue careers in arts criticism.
Each biweekly meeting of The Key features review workshops, mentor lectures and guest speakers from different areas of the local arts community. The Key students also attend performances in Chicago and use these experiences to hone their reviewing skills. In its inaugural session, The Key reviewed productions from Steppenwolf Theater, Shattered Globe Theatre, First Floor Theater, Firebrand Theatre and TimeLine Theatre. Guest speakers included writer/producer Aaron Carter (Steppenwolf Theatre), playwright Ike Holter (Jackalope Theatre, Goodman Theatre), editors Tasha Robinson (The Verge) and Genevieve Koski (Vox.com), and theater critics Chris Jones (Chicago Tribune), Kerry Reid (Chicago Tribune), Kris Vire (Time Out Chicago) and Loy Webb (Newcity).
Applications for The Key: Young Critics Mentorship Program are currently being accepted on Rescripted’s website (rescripted.org/the-key/) through Monday, Sept. 10 for young writers ages 16 – 23 years old . Trap Door Theatre announces new series Trap Open
For 25 years, Trap Door has been the foremost purveyor of experimental, European style theatre in Chicago. In keeping with their promise to foster innovative forms of expression, Trap Door will open up its space to company members as well as guest artists for the development of new work and performances that exist outside the realm of a traditional theatrical run.
The “Trap Open” Series seeks to explore non-traditional forms of playmaking while developing and giving voice to the next generation of groundbreaking theatre artists.
The series began with the recent run of Sad Happy Sucker written by Lee Kirk, directed by Mike Steele. The next installment will be There Is No Power For The Electric Chair, a U.S. premiere of a new Bulgarian play written by Aleksandar Sekulov and directed by guest artist Zlatomir Moldovanski, opening October 21st, 2018. More performances and special events will be announced in the coming months.

Free Seats Available from Stage 773
Stage 773 has 56 seats we are taking out of our Box Theatre space beginning Aug 20th. These seats were once in Radio City Music Hall and were donated to Stage 773 a few years ago. They are the classic auditorium style seating that bolts into the floor, the seat folds up and down. They are upholstered w/ red fabric. We also have another 64 of these seats disassembled in storage.
We would like to donate these seats to anybody who is willing to take them off of our hands. They would be available for pick up between August 20 and August 21. Email accounting@stage773.com for details.

Calling all comedic talent! Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont, is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 18th Annual Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival. The nation’s largest, and most highly anticipated sketch comedy festival is taking place January 10th through January 20th, 2019. “SketchFest” continues to grow and evolve year after year, cementing the city's reputation as the comedy hub of the nation. The festival “whose laughs are right on track,” says the Chicago Sun Times, features every form of sketch comedy imaginable, from perverted musical puppets to high-brow political satire.

Production Availability at Corn Productions
Corn Productions, or the Cornservatory, is located at 4210 N. Lincoln avenue and has availability for a lot of time slots in 2019. We have availability from January 6 - February 16, March 31 - May 11 and June 23 - August 30.
Corn is easily accessible by the Brown Line and there is ample parking in the neighborhood. Our main-stage space seats up to 45 persons. Our space is also ADA accessible with brand new air conditioning and seats.

Jeff Awards Present Intimacy Design Panel
The Jeff Awards committee presents a panel conversation on the art and challenges of intimacy design on Tuesday, August 17 at 7:30 pm at the Greenhouse Theater. The discussion will be led by Intimacy Directors International co-founder Tonia Sina and Chicago actors and directors Sasha Smith and Gaby Labotka. Members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend the program. Panel Members Bios:
• Tonia Sina is the Executive Director and co-founder of Intimacy Directors International (IDI), based in Oklahoma City. Her numerous credits for Intimacy Choreographer include The Bakkhai at the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada. She is also an international sexual harassment prevention advisor for theatre and film.
• Sasha Smith is a Chicago-based actor, violence and intimacy choreographer and Steep Theatre ensemble member. Chicago intimacy choreography credits include You Got Older (Steppenwolf), Smart People (Writers Theatre), Fear and Misery of the Third Reich (Haven Theatre), The Toilet (Haven Theatre), A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Gynecologic Oncology Unit At Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center Of New York City (Route 66), Ideation (Jackalope), and Octagon (Jackalope).
• Gaby Labotka is an actor, director, and choreographer with training in intimacy design by IDI. Recent Intimacy Choreography work includes Tilikum (Sideshow); Don't Smoke in Bed (Chimera Ensemble);Another Jungle (CloudGate Theatre); Through the Elevated Line (Silk Road Rising), Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea (First Floor Theater); A Swell in the Ground (The Gift); and Survivor Story: A Workshop(Transcendent Ensemble Theatre).
