Chicago DanzTheatre Ensemble Seeking Short Play Submissions

Chicago DanzTheartre Ensemble (CDE) is seeking submission of short plays (10-15 minutes) to initiate our 17th season of performance! Read all information below and submit your proposal to info@danztheatre.org.

General Information:
CDE’s mission is to marry drama, dance/movement, music, and multimedia to create radical change within the world (also known as “performance with a purpose”). In October of this year, CDE kicks off their 17th season with a playwright festival. This is not your average festival. True to their danztheatre style, CDE wants October’s festival to also reflect this multidisciplinary approach. CDE is seeking playwrights to submit danztheatre style works to be produced and performed in October’s playwright festival.

Additional Information:
Accepted playwrights are the producers. CDE expects playwrights to take charge in the development of their works. As the Producer of the festival, CDE will try their best to assist where possible. Accepted playwrights are encouraged to enlist their own director, choreographer and performers. If this is not possible, CDE will assist as possible in this process. CDE will host an open call audition for directors, choreographers, performers (movers and actors) to assist those accepted playwrights needing help to cast their shows. More details about this open-call audition will be shared after the proposal process. CDE affiliated Ensemble members may also be available to perform. We envision a process of collaboration between dramatic and dance personnel. Smaller cast size is encouraged, but this is not an imperative. The space will be arranged as a thrust. We recommend minimal use of set, props, and costumes. If these are necessary, CDE will allow the Artist access to their props and costumes. If there is something you wish to use, CDE will establish terms with that Artist for use of renting costumes and/or props. We have no fly-space, alternate universe portals, mountain peaks, or icebergs. CDE will provide technical services for lighting and sound. CDE will manage publicity and promotion. Promotional materials will be made available to playwrights and performers for their use. While CDE will manage the publicity and promotion of the festival, CDE expects playwrights and their casts to promote their works. CDE will provide up to 10 hours of rehearsal space to each group. Use of space dependent on availability of the space. CDE will offer two comp tickets to each author and performer.

To Submit: Attach, in PDF or Word format to info@danztheatre.org:
-Your play
-A statement of your vision of incorporating movement/dance/music into the production.
-If you need assistance in finding directors, choreographers, or performers.
-If the play is accepted, we will ask for a short blurb about the play and a brief bio of the author (each 50 words or fewer) for playbill and publicity purposes.
Boogie down and break legs!

WHAT: The Third Annual Chicago Theater Bike Ride: Love Hard, a 501(c)(3) organization, will benefit The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment (www.actorsfund.org), and The Emergency Aid Fund, which has assisted community members with funeral and apartment fire expenses with proceeds from the first two Rides.

The Ride was created in September 2014 to memorialize Molly Glynn, actor and mother of two, with a mission to support fellow artists in times of greatest need.

This year, the Ride has dropped “Memorial” from its name. “It was a bit of a mouthful,” said organizer Carmen Roman. “We will continue to honor all those who have come before while helping the survivors of a death or catastrophic event. We are here for our artistic community.” Families and friends are encouraged to ride together. Roberson, Jr., Joe Slowik, Fred Spector, Robert Elliott Towns, Andrea Urban, Alison C. Vesely, Lori Brown Wessely, Jen Gehr Whitten, and Howard Witt.

Organizers seek rider sponsorships, which include logo placement on the website, T-shirts and the race day banner: http://www.lovehardbikeride.org/sponsors.html

WHEN: Saturday, September 9, 2017. Ceremony at 11 a.m., first ride wave at 12 noon. Community potluck barbeque at 1:30 p.m.

ALSO LIST: The Ride will host a benefit at Four Moon Tavern, 1847 W. Roscoe in Chicago, on Monday, July 31, 2017, 5-8 p.m. to kick off our season and help pay for the up-front expense of the ride. Four Moon generously donates a portion of food and drink sales and raffle tickets will be sold for prizes including a bike, theater tickets, bike gear and other items.

GOAL: The 2017 fundraising goal is $15,000 and 200 riders. The ride has increased donations, ridership and gifts each successive year.

TCG Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowships Program

To assist applicants on their Fox Fellowship application, TCG will be holding information sessions in June and July. The sessions will happen via teleconference and webchat and are free to attend. The sessions will be held: Thursday, June 22, 2017, 2pm-3pm ET and Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 2pm-3pm ET.

Description
A fellowship for actors that supports their artistic and professional growth in collaboration with a TCG Member theatre. Grants will be awarded in each of the following two categories:

Exceptional Merit
$15,000 (with an additional $10,000 available to relieve student loan debt) supports actors who are established in their careers as working professionals with 10 years or more of professional experience. Those with less experience are still eligible to apply but must recognize that they are competing with actors who have demonstrated a sustained dedication to their careers. Funds will support actors who are evaluating the current state of their career and envisioning what their career could be as they continue to grow in their artistry.

Distinguished Achievement
$25,000 supports actors with 20 years or more of experience who have amassed a substantial body of work. Recipients are awarded grants to allow them to look for opportunities for continued growth and sustain the longevity of their careers. Recipients will use these resources to adapt to the physical changes as an actor later in their career and changes to casting.

The goals of the Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowships are:
To further an actor's artistic and professional development.
To deepen and enrich his/her relationship with a not-for-profit theatre.
Ensure his/her continued professional commitment to live theatre.
To encourage actors to work outside their comfort zone.

The Host Theatre will receive $7,500 to be applied to costs associated with the actor’s residency activities.

The downloadable guidelines and online application forms are our website: https://www.tcg.org/Grants/GrantsAtAGlance/FoxFoundationResidentActorFellowship.aspx
