Dream Theatre Company Moving Sale

Dream Theatre Company is moving, and we can't take all of our stuff with us to our new home. So we're selling off costumes, props, set pieces, and other items for the theatrically inclined. Everything from creepy vintage toys to tuxedo shirts to an unused(!) toilet and a piano is up for grabs.

DirectorsLabChicago 2014 Application Now Available Online

Now in its tenth year, DirectorsLabChicago offers environments in which emerging and established stage directors from all over the world are able to consider, challenge, and engage in both the traditional and contemporary aspects of their craft. This year's theme is: Investigating Adaptation and Devised Work. The Lab will take place from September 14 through September 19, 2014 at the Chicago Cultural Center and several off-site locations.

Applications must be emailed no later than Monday, May 12, 2014.

NET/TEN Travel Grants

NET/TEN Travel Grants support activities to initiate new relationships or further develop existing relationships.

Activities may take place in U.S. or internationally
Awarded twice a year
Grants range from $300 to $2,000
Travel Grants are intended to initiate and strengthen relationships, removing the barriers of distance and travel. Funds may be used for applicant travel or to bring in a guest. Eligible expenses include: travel costs, housing, per diem, artist fees, etc. Activities may include (but are not limited to) observerships, shared rehearsals, planning, training, and/or other exploration. Artistic, administrative, and technical/production-based projects are welcome.

Travel Grants do not support production costs, tours, or equipment purchase. Funds may not be used to support professional development activities, such as conferences, or for attendance at pre-existing public workshops, trainings, or similar events.

Art Meets Science At The Theater Flash Play Festival Accepting Submissions

Art Meets Science At The Theater Flash Play Festival featuring Prince Rupert's Drop examines and celebrates the dramatic relationship often over-looked in the art-begets-science relationship, that is it focuses on an experience. The festival was created for playwrights to actively look at and develop the form of the four-minute flash play per the festival's guidelines; to create plays: short, one-act, and full-length involving science and its cousins sci-fi, horror, and fantasy: to encourage the production of said genres, to protect and support the professional creation of these plays with workshops; to promote the genres. Ticket Broker Bill



Please submit a slip of support for HB3958 which is coming up for a committee meeting on Monday, April 7, 2014.  The bill forces ticket brokers to disclose that they are brokers and let patrons know the name and contact information for the theatre.  This bill will prevent brokers from masking their sites as a theatre box office and will prevent patrons from buying tickets that are exorbitantly priced or counterfeit.

The instructions look cumbersome, but it only takes 5 minutes.

Call for Submissions for City Lit Art of Adaptation Festival

Invitation for Submissions - $500 Cash Prize!
City Lit Theater Company seeks submissions to The Art of Adaptation, its annual festival of stage adaptations of non-dramatic literature.

The festival will take place June 13th, 14th and 15th at City Lit Theater, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue. We anticipate it will consist of 6 to 10 adaptations presented in various combinations over the course of the weekend. A panel of judges will view all performances and award a $500 cash prize to the adaptor of the piece judged the best of the festival.

THE RULES:
All pieces must be between 5 and 20 minutes.
2. It must be an adaptation of non-dramatic material—a short story, an essay, a memoir, poetry, an excerpt from a novel, a video game, what have you; but not material from a play.
3. Each adaptor is responsible for whatever royalties might be due on your piece, as well as for your own rehearsal process. City Lit will not provide rehearsal space prior to tech rehearsal, nor will it provide services of a director or any actors for any piece.
4. All pieces will be performed on the same simple unit set with the same simple light plot. A stock of furniture will be provided. If your piece requires furniture beyond the provided stock, it is your responsibility.
5. City Lit will provide performance space, backstage and front-of-house crew, publicity, programs, tickets and the $500 cash prize.

Proposals must be submitted no later than May 2nd.

Goodman Theatre hosts Prop Giveaway for Chicago Theatre Community

From voiceover techniques to those elusive foreign accents, explore the possibilities with Chicago's most sought-after dialect coach! Express yourself convincingly in the dialect of your choice! We will explore three dialects and then immediately start to apply them using both scripts and improvisation. We will begin with one of the “old standbys”: Standard British. Other dialects to be taught will be one of these possibilities: Cockney, Irish, Italian, Indian, French, Scottish, New York, American South, New England, Australian, German. Master Class: $20. About the Artist
EVA BRENEMAN is a freelance dialect, voice and monologue coach based in Chicago. Eva received her MA from The Central School of Speech and Drama, London, and her BFA from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has coached projects at a wide variety of venues in the Chicago and regional theatre. The range of dialects and languages she has taught goes from Australian and Bosnian to Rwandan and Zaghawan. Eva has taught dialects and text work at DePaul University, voice and speech at Loyola University, Shakespeare and voice at Roosevelt University, voice and scene work at North Park University, and voice and speech at Lake Forest College.

Pride Films and Plays has a small rehearsal space on Wilson and Clark available for rehearsals starting May 26. $30 per night. Piano, Fridge, Microwave. 20 x 20 so great for smaller rehearsals or classes. Great parking and public transportation via Clark Street Bus and Wilson Red Line.
