Do It Myself: 5 Decades of Theatre That Works

The Department of Cultural Affair's Theatre at Work Series presents:
Do It Myself: Five Decades of Theatre That Works
Monday, May 17, 2010, 7 p.m.

Storefront Theater at Gallery 37 , 68 East Randolph Street
Free, but reservations required by calling 312-742-TIXS or www.dcatheater.org

With the recent successes of Chicago-born productions, national and international observers are once again heralding the city's "emerging" world-class theatre scene. But residents know that Chicago theatre emerged decades ago - riding a rising tide of "storefront," do-it-yourself ethos. Hear how it happened (sometimes barely) from the people who were there.

Moderated by Chicago Artists Resource Theater Curator Dan Granata (Managing Director of the side project theatre company), special guests include Sharon Phillips (Former Managing Director of the Body Politic and former Outreach Director for Victory Gardens and Wisdom Bridge Theatres), Jackie Taylor (actor, playwright, director and Founding Executive Director of Black Ensemble Theater) and Steve Scott (director, teacher, and Associate Producer at the Goodman Theatre).
