In Conversation with Q2Q Cartoonist Steven Younkins

The Stage Managers’ Association (SMA), in partnership with The League of Chicago Theatres, presents In Conversation with Q2Q Cartoonist Steven Younkins on Monday, April 2nd in Chicago, Illinois. The conversation will be held at Steppenwolf's Merle Reskin Rehearsal Space and led by Joe Drummond.

This is an opportunity for the Chicago Theatre community to learn about Steven's inspirations and the backstories for his Q2Q characters.

The event is free and open to the public, but all attendees must have a ticket. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended as seating is limited. Limit 1 ticket per person/email address.

A View from the Wings: Beyond the Documents

The Stage Managers’ Association (SMA) is hosting a Central Region all-day conference, A View from the Wings: Beyond the Documents on Saturday, October 14th in Chicago, Illinois. The day will include panel and round table discussions with established Chicago stage managers and professional experts. The conference is an opportunity to showcase the value of an SMA membership and the highlights of working as a stage manager in and around the Windy City.

Subjects will include*:
Chicago Theatre Standards - Laura Fisher will discuss this new document (previously known as the Code of Conduct), highlighting the Stage Manager responsibilites contained within
Personal Aspects of the Job - Balancing your career and personal life; Building a Stage Management team and working in the various positions; The challenges, rewards, duties, and resources for working with store front theatres
Stage Management Challenges - a panel discussion on challenges face by Stage Management including personalities, conflict resolution, burn outs, and delegating responsibility
Practical Use of the Chicago Theatre Standards - a panel discussion for Stage Managers working on productions that contain nudity, intimacy, and/or violence

A Complimentary continental breakfast and box lunch will be provided.

Registration costs:
$15 for all current SMA Members
$30 for Non-Member Students (Includes a 1 year membership to the SMA, $10 initiation fee waived.)
$50 for all other Non-Members (Includes a 1 year membership to the SMA, $25 initiation fee waived.)

PANEL DESCRIPTIONS 
“Working in Store Front Type Theatres: You’re going to needed a bigger tackle box!” - Discussion moderated by Ellen Willett with store front stage managers Jennifer Aparicio, Lindsey Miller, Lauren Yarbrough and Stephanie Hurowitz

 “Working Under an Actors' Equity CAT (Chicago Area Theatre) Contract” - Explore what is unique about the contract and how the Tiers differ. Discussion moderated by Mary Hungerford with CAT stage managers Malcolm Ewen, Sara Gammage, Dennis Conners, Nora Mally and Jonathan Nook 

“Services Available to SMs” - Discussion led by Barbara Butts covering The League of Chicago Theatres, Matty K's Hardware, the Non Union Code of Conduct and others.

 "Round Table Discussion Focused on Career Advice" will be led by JoHannah Hail with Stage Managers Nora Mally, Dennis Conners, Nykol Dedreu, and Jeff Williams covering different areas of career advice.

MORE INFORMATION
A continental breakfast is being sponsored by Matty K’s Hardware on Lincoln Ave.
A box lunch will be sponsored by Grand Stage Lighting of Chicago.
A networking pizza party, sponsored by the League of Chicago Theatres, will wrap up the afternoon.
Due to Steppenwolf’s matinee, there is limited parking. The rehearsal hall is located ½ block east of the CTA North & Clybourn Red line stop.

REGISTRATION 
The cost of admission is $15 for all SMA members, $30 for non-member Students and $50 for all other non-member attendees. Non SMA Member admission to the conference will include a 1 year membership to the SMA, with the $25 initiation fee waived.
