Finding a job after your internship or apprenticeship can seem daunting even in the large and supportive Chicago theatre community. How do you stand out and succeed in a crowded field of applicants? What makes Chicago unique from other theatre communities and how can you thrive here? The Chicago Theatre Intern Networking Event is the only event of its kind to help interns and apprentices make new professional connections and learn from the experience of artists and administrators who are working in the city. Breakout groups include: Artistic/Casting, Development/Special Events, Education/Outreach, Literary Management/Dramaturgy, Marketing/PR, Production Management, Stage Management, Theatre Management and Technical/Design. Refreshments will be provided.

We are in the final two weeks of registration for arts education providers who are interested in exploring best practices around curriculum development and alignment, instruction, assessment and evaluation.
The Institute will focus on the following disciplines: music, dance, theater and visual arts and be lead by four leading Chicago Public School arts instructors from Ravenswood Elementary School, Senn High School, Walter Payton High School and Lindblom High School. The Institute will also explore curriculum alignment to the Common Core State Standards.

DCASE In the Works Residency Program Now Accepting Applications
In the Works is the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events' residency program and gives emerging and established performing artists the opportunity to test-drive new work in a public setting. Each residency is tailored to the needs of the artist or company and their project and takes place in the most suitable DCASE space. Each showing is a unique opportunity for audiences to get a behind-the-scenes look at new work by Chicago artists.
In The Works performance Submissions Accepted: Applications for residencies from January–August 2015 will be open from October 17-November 17, 2014. Applications must be submitted by 5pm CST on November 17th. Late or incomplete applications will not be evaluated.

Redtwist invites exciting young guest companies to submit proposals for productions "in association with" Redtwist Theatre, to be performed at the Redtwist space. Show times would be Sat 3pm, and Sun & Mon 7:30pm for up to a 6-week run (18 performances total), in which case the Jeff Committee would judge the show for potential nominations and awards. MASTER CLASS: Shakespeare Scene Study
Dr. Sharon Ammen, Instructor
Appropriate for actors with any Shakespeare experience, this course is an in-depth exploration of the Bard’s works and how voice, movement, and musicality of text influence performance. Students will learn to make Shakespeare’s language their own and to physically embody his characters through a number of exercises and in-depth text analysis. Work will progress from sonnets to scenes and culminate in monologues suitable for auditions.

TUTAtots: Animals in ACTion for 4-6 year olds
Company Member Helen Lattyak, Teacher
In this TUTA creative drama class, students will explore acting, singing, and basic movement, through the use of their imaginations, creativity, and lots of teamwork. Each student will have the chance to create their very own animal characters, learn songs, and lots of fun acting exercises.

Audition Workshop at The Brown Paper Box Co.
Does your audition monologue need a fresh set of eyes &
ears?
From the second you walk into an audition room to the company's final,
"Thanks for coming!" you have ample opportunities to make a positive
lasting impression with casting directors and production staff. For 2 hours, The
Brown Paper Box Co. will create a supportive and informative atmosphere
working through monologues and audition techniques for up to 10 actors. We'll
also have space in the room for those wishing to audit the workshop.$15 to perform and work your monologue (10 slots available).
$5 to audit and not perform (up to 8 slots available).
Please prepare one 90-second contemporary monologue and dress as if you were attending a real audition. Come prepared to take some notes (recording devices are ok!), gain some advice, and have a fun afternoon.

M. William Panek (Executive Director/Workshop Facilitator) is a founding member of The Brown Paper Box Co. and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BFA in Stage Direction. Most recently, he directed William Finn's A New Brain at Rivendell Theatre and coordinated & hosted "Proud at Mary's: A June Cabaret" at Mary's Attic. Chicago directing credits: Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls (BroadwayWorld Award nominee - Best Director, non-Equity), Godspell (BroadwayWorld Award nominee - Best Musical Revival, non-Equity), the world premiere of Aaron Golden's To Tree(BroadwayWorld Award nominee - Best New Work), Reefer Madness! The Musical in 2010, and its subsequent 4/20 remounts in 2011 and 2012. In addition, he has appeared in The Brown Paper Box Co.'s "Character Breakdown: A Miscast Cabaret" at Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret. William was an artistic associate with The Orchard Project in Hunter, NY, a production assistant for the 24-Hour Musicals at Joe's Pub, and the business management assistant at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

The Hundred Flowers Project- Silk Road Rising (77 W Washington St) is offering $10 Industry tickets to all previews. Tickets can be purchased online HERE (there is no processing fee to buy online). Previews start on Thursday, October 16th. The Hundred Flowers Project is directed by Joanie Schultz.
