Filament Theatre seeks members for Cooperative Theatre Residency Program, beginning 2016.
Filament Theatre seeks members for Cooperative Theatre Residency Program, beginning 2016.
WHAT
More than a transactional rental agreement, Filament’s Co-Op Program will unite Chicago theatre companies in the spirit of support, cooperation, and mutual benefit. Member companies will pay a competitive monthly rate, corresponding with weeks of space use. That monthly fee includes use of Filament’s 4000 square foot blackbox theatre, rehearsal studio, production support; administrative support including scheduling, box office, and facilities management; access to a shared email database for a monthly Coop e-blast; insurance; repairs and maintenance.
Though companies operate in a spirit of administrative collaboration, each Member Company will remain artistically distinct and autonomous. The Co-Op currently consists of Filament Theatre and Two Pence Theatre Company, and we are looking for 1-2 additional companies to complete this program.
For additional information, please visit www.filamenttheatre.org/coop
WHY
By working together we are all stronger.
HOW
Please submit a letter of interest to coop@filamenttheatre.org. Tell us a little bit about your organization including a recent production history (including length of run and performance venue), and why you are interested in the Co-Op program.
After we receive your letter of interest, you may be asked to prepare a few additional materials and schedule an in-person meeting with Filament and co-op member Two Pence Theatre Company, at which point we will give you a full tour of the space and discuss the program in more detail.

2015 Michael Merritt Awards And Design Exposition
The 22nd Annual Merritt Awards for Excellence in Design and Collaboration will take place on Monday, May 4th, at Loyola University Chicago. 5:00pm-10:00pm
Announcing a brand new annual award: The Emerging Technical Collaborator Award. This award celebrates a passionate and skillful early career professional who goes about their work in a particularly collaborative manner. We know that it is hard to launch a career in this profession so we are thrilled to announce that this award comes with a $2000 prize. Last year we unveiled the The Robert Christen Award for Excellence in Technical Collaboration, this award recognizes an outstanding technical professional whose career as a collaborator in the realization of theatrical design has been significant and sustained. We see the pair as a compliment to the Merritt and Maggio design awards. There are so many amazing Scenic Painters, Production Managers, Technical Directors, Costume Shop Managers, Master Electricians, Carpenters, Programmers, Drapers, Cutters, Riggers, Sound Supervisors, Properties Masters, Stage Managers… that are long overdue for public celebration. We are thrilled to be launching a new era in which we celebrate these key members of theatrical collaborative team. Both awards are made possible by the generosity of Founding Sponsor Chicago Flyhouse.
